New visualization features, enhanced OLAP tools and support for community platforms top the list of updates designed to advance critical BI projects
SAN FRANCISCO (July 22, 2009) –
Jaspersoft, provider of the world’s most widely used business intelligence (BI) software, today announced the availability of Jaspersoft Community Edition v3.5, with features and updates aimed at helping its community progress their priority BI projects.
Jaspersoft today also joins 50 industry leaders as one of the founding members of Open Source for America, an organization that will serve as a unified voice for the promotion of open source software in the U.S. Federal Government arena. For more information, please read Jaspersoft CEO Brian Gentile’s comments on his blog at http://openbookonbi.blogspot.com or visit the organization’s website at http://www.opensourceforamerica.org.
“Customers across industries and from governments around the world are flocking to open source software now more than ever,” said Brian Gentile, CEO of Jaspersoft. “Jaspersoft Community Edition is well-equipped to address the needs of these new users with broad usability and a deep set of features and capabilities that allow them to implement simple, powerful and affordable business intelligence to support a wide variety of business requirements.”
Many of the new features available today improve usability and data visualization, including Gantt charts, barcodes and chart themes (with an associated chart themes editor) to simplify creation of reports containing visually appealing content. Jaspersoft Community Edition users also get access to simplified development of multi-component reports, a revised OLAP user interface and engine, and extended platform support.
The JasperAnalysis Schema Workbench, a desktop OLAP design tool, has been rewritten to support the latest version of the Jaspersoft OLAP engine and provide increased usability with additional validation, pop-up menus and prompts for schema elements that are schema- and database-aware. New MDX Query features include automatic generation of default MDX queries, reducing the time and effort required to develop and deploy OLAP environments.

Jaspersoft today is also announcing new open source platform support through partnerships that include:
* Monty Program, the company founded by MySQL® creator Monty Widenius and that in collaboration with the open source community develops MariaDB, a GPL-licensed branch of MySQL Database Server.
* “Our MariaDB customers and users want a best-of-breed business intelligence solution, so it feels natural and most comfortable to turn to an open source BI leader,” said Monty Widenius, CEO of Monty Program. “We are proud to team with Jaspersoft to mutually serve our customers.”
* The JBoss Community project Teiid, which aims to provide best-of-breed solutions for applications to use data from multiple heterogeneous data stores through data abstraction and federation.
” The combination of open source BI and reporting with open source data virtualization is a natural fit,” said Ken Johnson, senior product manager, Red Hat. “Through Teiid, users have the opportunity to produce consolidated, real-time views of data from heterogeneous sources that JasperServer can utilize for drill-down analysis or production-level reporting.”
Jaspersoft also recently extended its partnership with Infobright to provide a new virtual machine download, a freely available open source bundle that includes an end-to-end BI and data warehousing solution. The virtual machine includes Infobright’s high-performance database and Jaspersoft’s BI software, and enables users to quickly deploy a complete analytic solution. The BI virtual machine can be downloaded at http://www.infobright.org/Downloads/Jaspersoft_ICE_VM/.
Additional Jaspersoft Community Edition updates include JasperETL v3.1 with improved visibility and support for search of job designs and a customized palette for your preferred components; embedded Perl for Windows users simplifying setup and configuration; and expanded language support including Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian.
