SAP NEWSBYTE (November 30, 2009) – The Government of Algeria decided to substantially modernize its tax system with the introduction of a new IT landscape. The objective of this IT project, driven by the country’s Directorate General of Tax (DGI), is to significantly improve the services to taxpayers and to facilitate the electronic fulfilling of tax duties. The technical foundation of the new system is the SAP® Tax and Revenue Management application in combination with the SAP NetWeaver® technology platform. Using analytical software tools, the DGI also aims to more efficiently fight tax fraud.
In a central module of the software, the DGI plans to calculate taxes and manage tax settlements. The SAP software will support the interaction between the DGI and taxpayers. Other modules of the system will handle the registry and management of tax records and forms. The software also will power a Web site on which constituents can submit income tax declarations and download tax information.
The new system is expected to go live in 2012, and will support approximately 10,000 government employees in 54 provincial divisions and more than 600 local offices. The Algerian government selected SAP partner and premier Spanish IT company Indra as its implementation partner for this project.
